We would not hesitate to recommend it to others and will certainly be returning in the near future. Admittedly it was not atall busy so cannot judge what it would be like if they had a full house, I suspect there might be a bit of a wait! It is a small, very welcoming, family friendly hotel. The family room was a great size with a large bathroom. We had dinner and breakfast during our stay and both were very impressive. The only negative was that we did have a bit of traffic noise in our room but it wasn't a problem and it was only me who noticed it! The cosy bar area was so inviting with very friendly staff and log fires. I wouldn't hesitate in returning there in the future. No big deal really, but just a nice touch after a long drive and it eased me into the pre-wedding celebrations. And even though the kitchen was closed, I was also offered something to eat (I'd not had dinner) which was very thoughtful. We officially checked out Sunday morning but we used the Cottage as a base for the day to go off and see friends and stroll up Glastonbury Torr, we returned to the cottage several times that day for drinks/food. Great spot to return to and sit outside, probably helped by the amazing sunshine that weekend! Shepton Mallet itself doesn't really have anything offer but the Thatched Cottage was convenient for where we needed to be. Would recommend to anyone attending a wedding/event at Kilver Court (which is walking distance & has the most stunning gardens; amazing setting for a wedding). We received a group discount on our room rate though, not sure what the normal rate would be, but I wouldn't want to pay much more if I'm honest. Overall, a very comfortable & pleasant stay, clean bright bedrooms, wooden beams and cosy feeling... Great breakfast too. Thanks!
